Our Story …
CPEA, Companhia de Pólvoras e Explosivos de Angola SA , is an Angolan private law company established in 1959. Since those early years the company activity is the production and sale of explosives and blasting accessories. The register has been made on the Conservatória do Registo Comercial de Luanda, number 2.337,page 31, book C-8.
Despite of the stagnation period of the Angolan economy, CPEA presented a period of recovery between 1986 and 1992. The Capanda Hydroelectric and the Luzamba Diamonds projects made it possible due to the supply of large quantities of dynamite. At that stage the production of dynamite was made from the deployment of a matrix produced by Britanite.
With the signing of the Peace Agreements in 2002, new challenges have emerged. Ex-UEE (Union Española de Explosivos), current MAXAM acquired most of the capital of CPEA based on the law of Private Investment. This lead in 2004 to a change of the statutes of CPEA and initiated a total overhaul of the technological process and re-launch of the company.
MAXAM, majority shareholder and guarantor of the technical assistance, operates in over 50 companies, installed in the 5 continents, contributing to the economic and social development. Therefore, since 2004 CPEA has seen a new dynamic, presenting itself stronger each year with activity levels that have allowed the monitoring and response to the challenges of the demands of rebuilding in ANGOLA after 35 years of civil war. In 2005 changed the formulation of the production and procedures, with acquisition of the news equipment, ensuring greater reliability and profitability. Currently we are producing granular explosive–ANFO and AMUNITE as well as Hydrogel–RIOGEL KUPULA. In 2012 and 2013 we automated the production of our Kupula´s section, thus improving the presentation of the explosive and production capacity.
We can state that in MAXAM CPEA´s, the explosive that has been applied in all over the country, is made only in Luanda from raw materials imported from Brazil and Europe. MAXAM CPEA produces explosives with various characteristics for all type of applications that require a lower or higher level of needs, according to the specificity of the work. All blasting accessories, including detonating cord, safety fuse, electric detonators and non-electric detonators, continue to be imported.
